My config for The Royals “General” has Language set to British English. When I look at my private site, the Language is empty and nothing appears if I click on the drop down. How do I set for British English?

(The Royals options are British English and US English)

Since we introduced the language selection tab (above) a couple of releases back there has been no need to delete languages from the server. You can, of course, but it’s unnecessary and will have to be redone every update.

Is you don’t want to use some or any of them, simply don’t select them on that tab.

I’m not following. Language tab? Only tabs are per family tree and are
      general
      privacy
      media
      layout
      hide & show
      edit options
      theme

I saw the Unused languages folder when uploading release and used it for all the languages I don’t use.

Wrong decision. That’s just for my use. Ignore it. Don’t use it. Next release doesn’t include it, but it might still hang around in your system.

I read that. But only place I have tabs is for family tree config.
My site admin is list, not tabs.

You got me. I was there. Read the site config and totally oblivious to the tabs 🙂 Probably ’cause it’s not somewhere I have to go for the most part. That said, British, US and francais was already checked.

I didn’t check them, they were checked. But did save anyway. It now shows. Weird! Will check out this feature when I upgrade to the new release. I’ll manually delete the Unused folder then.

That’s deliberate, but a little strange perhaps for sites involved in the transition from old methodology to new.

For a new set up no languages are enabled, but by going to that tab all that’s required is to click “save” as the default set of languages (32 of them) are pre-ticked ready for use.

What does bother me more is that with no languages enabled AND saved, you should not have had a language drop-down box on your front page at all. I’ll have to check how that could happen. Empty drop-downs are not helpful.

The wee box I saw (as in pic) at least told me something was wrong as it didn’t match The Royals. Just didn’t know why. If it wasn’t there, wouldn’t know where to start looking (if I didn’t want English as my default).
